Showing support from across the state line Massachusetts Governor–Elect Charlie Baker was in the audience for Tuesday’s inauguration of Gina Raimondo, Rhode Island’s first female Governor.

“I reached out to all of the North Eastern Governors and invited them to my inauguration and said that if they came I would come to there’s and Governor– elect Raimondo was kind enough to agree to come to mine and I’m here at hers,” said Charlie Baker, (R) MA Governor- Elect.

The two stand on different sides politically. Baker is a Republican and Raimondo a Democrat. The two became acquaintances while meeting with the President after the election last year.

Given the close proximity of the states the two new leaders will have to work closely over the next four years.

“We have had conversations already about a number of shared interests the biggest one of course being the price of energy,” said Baker prior to the ceremony.

Topics baker plans to address during his inauguration speech later this week include jobs and the opiate addiction problem in the Commonwealth.

Baker will be sworn in as the 72nd Governor Thursday. Among his guests will be New jersey Governor Chris Christie. It’s one of several that the potential 2016 GOP Presidential contender will go to.
