Magaziner, Reed, announce $707,000 for Coventry police equipment upgrades

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — The Coventry Police Department will receive $707,000 in federal funding to help upgrade department equipment.
The funding, from Senator Jack Reed and U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner, will go toward upgrading the department’s fleet of police vehicles, new state-of-the-art radios and technology infrastructure.
Also to be purchased with the funding will be a new mobile command emergency response trailer and pickup truck, two new command vehicles to replace those that are over a decade old, a new K-9 vehicle and an upgrade in technology infrastructure.
“Our police officers go above and beyond to serve and protect our communities. They should have the best equipment available and this federal funding will provide them with new, specialized tools, technology, and resources like state-of-the-art radios and command vehicles,” said Senator Reed.
“All Rhode Islanders deserve to live in safe communities, and that means providing local law enforcement with the equipment and resources to do their jobs,” said Representative Magaziner.
This funding comes from the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024 which passed through both the House and Senate in March and was signed into law by President Biden on March 9.
