Maine in mourning after 18 killed in mass shootings at bowling alley, restaurant

LEWISTON, Maine. (WLNE) — A community in Maine is coming together in morning after what officials are calling the worst mass killing in state history.

Memorials in Lewiston honored the victims of Wednesday’s mass shootings.

People made signs saying “Lewiston Strong” and displayed paper hearts with messages on trees outside of a hospital where victims are recovering.

Lewiston and neighboring Lisbon remain in a shelter-in-place order as authorities search for suspected gunman Robert Card.

Authorities said Card opened fire at a bowling alley and a restaurant, killing 18 people. Over a dozen more were hurt.

ABC News reports that a relative of Card told investigators that she thought he may have been going after an ex-girlfriend at the bowling alley.

Heavily-armed police surrounded a house associated with Card for hours on Thursday night. It was unclear if Card was inside.

As of Friday morning, he was still not in custody.
