Man accused of firing gun in West Greenwich apprehended

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A man accused of discharging a firearm was apprehended by Smithfield police on Friday.

Around 9:23 a.m., police searched the Citizens Bank Campus in Johnston after receiving a call about a reported suicidal suspect in possession of a firearm.

Chief of Police Mark Vieira shared that the suspect was wanted by West Greenwich Police Department earlier Friday morning, for discharging a firearm.

After police were dispatched and a temporary shelter-in-place was ordered at the bank’s campus, the subject was able to be located.

The suspect was apprehended by Smithfield police.

Officials share that there is no threat to the public.
