Man accused of kidnapping 80-year-old woman pleads guilty

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — A 53-year-old man who was accused of assaulting and kidnapping an 80-year-old woman pled guilty in court on June 16.
In a court hearing on Monday, Steven Henning pled guilty to kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon in a dwelling, first degree robbery, assault on a person over 60-serious bodily injury, and burglary and larceny of a motor vehicle.
Prosecutors said in August 2024, Henning asked the 80-year-old for money, choked her, demanded jewelry and money, then placed her in her car and drove her around for some time.
He eventually left the woman in the woods and planned to bury her before she went for help.
Henning was arrested on August 18, 2024.
Henning is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 12.
