Man accused of stabbing former Fall River Mayor Flanigan due in court

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A man accused of repeatedly stabbing former Fall River Mayor Will Flanagan is expected to face a judge Thursday.

31-year-old Corree Gonzalez will appear for a hearing stemming from two felony charges in the October 20 Hartwell Street incident.

Gonzalez was arrested and arraigned on October 22 on charges of armed assault to murder and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury.

Gonzalez was evaluated at Bridgewater State Hospital after police learned that he has suffered from mental health issues.

His court appearance is for a status review due to a continuation to allow for his 20-day evaluation.
