DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WLNE) — A bank employee has been accused of taking pictures up women’s skirts Thursday.
Police say 54-year-old William Raus, of Westport, may have done it to three women. He also holds public office in Westport.
Raus has since been fired from the Citizens Bank in Dartmouth.
Officials say last week one of the victim’s moms called them with the disturbing details. From their investigation, police found two more victims.
The Citizens Bank branch on Dartmouth Street in Dartmouth is where police say Raus took pictures or video of three women also known as upskirting.
“It was brought to our attention by one of the victim’s mothers that something may have occurred at Citizens Bank. They had actually named one of the employees there as far as being a suspect,” Detective Kyle Costa of the Dartmouth Police Department.
Detectives used bank surveillance to investigate, and that one victim turned into three. It is unclear whether the women were fellow employees or customers.
“Kudos to the victim for coming forward [because] it’s really not the easiest thing to do. That’s all it takes, is finding the courage to let us know and then you let us run with the ball,” said Detective Costa.
Police say Raus has been cooperative with the investigation thus far. He also happens to be the vice chairman of the Planning Board in Westport, which is the town he lives in.
As for his job at Citizens Bank, the company issued a statement saying:
“Citizens takes these types of allegations very seriously. We took immediate action when we became aware of the situation and this individual is no longer employed by the bank. As always, we are fully cooperating with law-enforcement.”
Raus was summonsed to court at a later date and not arrested.
The Planning Board in Westport could not comment on whether he will keep his position there until his term ends in 2019.
