Man arrested after allegedly shooting gun in Fall River

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — The Fall River Police Department said a man was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly firing a gun on Globe Street and South Main Street.

23-year-old Josiah Steward was charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license to carry, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and possession of a large capacity firearm.

Around 2 a.m. police responded to gunshots and pursued a man who fled.

Officers then apprehended the man, Steward, who told them he fired a gun because a group of several other people fired at him first.

Police said he also told them he discarded the firearm, which was recovered later.
