Man arrested after assaulting girlfriend, killing 2-month-old dog

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence Police responded to a Marvin Street residence Saturday night after reports of a male refusing to leave.

Upon arrival, a woman told police that her boyfriend, Jorge Garcia, 34, was drunk and that she wanted him removed from her home.

Police noticed that both the woman and her 13-year-old son suffered injuries connecting to a verbal and physical altercation between the woman and Garcia.

Garcia had reportedly just returned from a night out.

The 13-year-old was injured while attempting to stop Garcia.

Upon investigation, officers learned that Garcia had killed the woman’s 2-month-old dog and hid the dog before police arrived.

Police found the dog lifeless on the sidewalk.

Garcia was arrested and charged with one count of domestic simple assault and one count of domestic felony assault as well as malicious killing of an animal.

Garcia is currently at the ACI.

The dog was sent to Tufts Animal Hospital for a necropsy.
