Man arrested after stabbing in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Police Department said that a stabbing suspect was in custody after a fight on April 16.

46-year-old Dennis Hart was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.

The incident occurred in the area of Elm Street and Purchase Street, where an adult male victim had sustained a severe laceration to his arm and two other minor wounds to his body.

The suspect fled the scene, and after a search Hart was arrested at the Serta bus terminal.

The department added that Hart was on probation and had 43 previous arraignments and convictions for a variety of offenses including distribution of a Class B substance, assault and battery, malicious destruction of property, intimidation, and strangulation.

Police added that the victim was in expected to recover.
