Man arrested for possession of 37 lbs of pot

WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — A man was arrested on Friday after officers seized 34 pounds of marijuana as a result of a traffic stop.

Rhode Island State Police say 30-year-old Yin Liu, of New York, was driving on 95 North in the area of West Greenwich, for following too close to a bus.

After initiating a traffic stop, troopers noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle as well as several large laundry-type bags in the backseat.

Upon searching the bags, 34 one-pound vacuum-sealed bags were found containing what is believed to be marijuana.

The estimated worth of the seized amount is $70,000.

Liu was arraigned on the following charges:

  • Possession with Intent to Deliver a Schedule I Controlled Substance (Marijuana).
  • Possession of Marijuana Over 5 Kilograms.

The 30-year-old was ordered held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institution.

Liu also was issued traffic citation for following too close.
