Man arrested for threatening to shoot police in Warren standoff

WARREN, R.I. (WLNE) — A man was arrested for threatening to shoot Warren police officers in a standoff early Sunday morning.
The Warren Police Department said 56-year-old Timothy Simon showed officers a gun while shouting threats from inside his apartment on Metacom Avenue.
Police said they responded to reports of a man with a gun acting aggressively outside the complex, arriving to find he had returned to his apartment and appeared to be extremely intoxicated.
As officers attempted to communicate with the man, later identified as Simon, authorities said he began threatening to shoot the officers and displayed a handgun toward them.
Officials said police were able to de-escalate the situation and convinced Simon to leave the apartment, after which he was taken into custody.
A search of the residence revealed a loaded handgun and a pepper ball gun, according to police.
Simon was charged with license to carry a concealed firearm, threat to a public official, carrying a firearm while under the influence of liquor, weapons other than firearms prohibited, and disorderly conduct.
He was held on $20,000 surety at his arraignment, officials said.
