Man arrested in Brockton for possessing illegal firearm in front of hotel

BROCKTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Massachusetts State Police said that a man was arrested at a hotel on Westgate Drive in Brockton after it was discovered he was carrying a firearm without a license.

19-year-old Qoriyo Abdirizak, of Portland, Maine, was charged with carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm without a license, and possession of ammunition.

State police said two troopers were patrolling in the area of the hotel around 1 a.m. on June 12 when they spotted a vehicle parked in front of the main entrance.

The two questioned Abdirizak on why he was parked there when they allegedly saw a knife near his left hand.

Police said a frisk allegedly found Smith & Wesson .380 caliber pistol in his pocket.

He apparently does not have a license to carry a firearm.
