Man arrested in connection with theft of child’s ashes

BARRINGTON, R.I. (WLNE) — The Barrington Police Department said it has arrested a man in connection with the theft of a safe containing the ashes of a child.

39-year-old Joel Reis was charged with breaking and entering.

Police said they responded to a report of breaking and entering at a home in the area of Nayatt Road.

According to officials, a black safe containing several items, including the ashes of the family’s deceased child was stolen from the home.

Reis was arrested after a search warrant was executed at his Providence home.

His bail was set at $140,000.

Police added that Reis was in violation of his parole, and had been previously charged twice with breaking into homes.
