PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Florida man was arraigned Wednesday on charges connected to a fatal shooting in Providence earlier this year.

Reyson Antonio Leonor Uffre entered a not guilty plea in Providence Superior Court.

He will remain held at the Adult Corrections Institution.

The Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office said Uffre, of Orlando, was indicted last month in the shooting death of Ivan Encarnacion.

Uffre is accused of shooting Ivan Encarnacion several times around 5:30 a.m. at an after-hours drinking spot on Burnside Street on Feb. 12.

Police found him dead in the basement.

“We have evidence that these homes are actually houses for after hours,” said Chief Oscar Perez at the time.

“Huge amounts of people, overcrowded — we have evidence that they are selling and charging for liquor, we have evidence they are charging interest for the locations. We have evidence there are fights inside these basements.”

Police said there was no known relationship between Encarnacion and Uffre.

Uffre has criminal history in Orlando and Woonsocket.

He has a pre-trial conference scheduled in December.
