Cranston Police have made an arrest in the murder of a pregnant woman found dead in a burning house Friday evening.

Police say 32-year-old Aliss Collins was discovered in the third floor apartment on Marcy Street by firefighters. She lived there with a roommate.

Investigators had been looking for a man witnesses saw leaving the house and running down the street.

An autopsy concluded her death was a homicide caused by blunt force trama, smoke inhalation, with elevated levels of carbon monoxide. Her unborn baby was unable to survive as a result of her death.

Police arrested Born Smith, 29, of Providence, Tuesday night while walking on Penn Street in Providence.

Police say Smith and Collins were intimate partners for the past ten months. Physical evidence from Marcy Street, as well as circumstantial evidence developed during the investigation led to Smith’s arrest. The motive is still unclear.

Smith is charged with Domestic First Degree Arson, Domestic First Degree Murder and Willful Killing of an Unborn Quick Child
