BOSTON (AP) _ A man charged in connection with a suspicious suitcase left near a Department of Homeland Security vehicle in Boston faces arraignment.

James Derepentigny, of Lawrence, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Boston Municipal Court on a charge of planting a hoax device.

The abandoned suitcase was found Friday during a routine patrol near the Coast Guard office on Atlantic Avenue. Police say Derepentigny put the package next to the vehicle and hurried away.

Police said an X-ray revealed it contained wires and an unidentified item that might be a “power source,” prompting them to destroy it just before noon in a controlled detonation that sent a boom echoing off nearby skyscrapers.

Prosecutors say a defense attorney has yet to be named.
