Man dead from self-inflicted gunshot wound after standoff in West Warwick

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — A man is dead following a standoff yesterday in a West Warwick neighborhood.

According to officials, members of the West Warwick Police Department had originally responded to calls regarding a domestic assault, which allegedly occurred at a residence on Morris Street.

Police said the male suspect was believed to be barricaded inside the residence and possibly armed.

The West Warwick/Coventry Regional SWAT team responded to the scene, and officers attempted to contact the suspect to no avail.

SWAT Officers did make entry into the home to discover the suspect deceased of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A child, who was inside the home at the time of the incident, was not injured.
