Man facing multiple gun charges after incident in Fall River

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A Fall River man was arrested after he allegedly fired a gun from his apartment on Dec. 6, according to Fall River police.

45-year-old Matthew Vieira was charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, possession of a firearm without an LTC/FID, possession of ammunition without an LTC/FID, and improper storage of a firearm.

Police responded to Dover Street for reports of a man firing a gun from an apartment window.

According to police, witnesses told officers they saw a man in the second-floor window yelling at a person in the parking lot when the man allegedly fired a gun.

Officers entered the second-floor apartment and spoke with residents, including Vieira, who police said “denied involvement or hearing a gunshot.”

During the investigation, officers allegedly located a shell casing on the sidewalk “directly beneath the window identified by the complainant,” according to police.

Officers detained Vieira and discovered he allegedly did not have a valid firearms license.

Police then executed a search warrant and allegedly found a gun inside Vieira’s bedroom.

Vieira was arrested and charged.
