A 38-year-old Smithfield resident has been found guilty of shooting a man near Providence College in 2014.
Willie "Chill Will” Washington was found guilty of charges including carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm after previously being convicted of a crime of violence and felony assault, state Attorney General Peter Kilmartin announced Wednesday.
A Providence County Superior Court jury returned the verdict in six hours, following a six-day trial.
Prosecutors said Washington had confronted the driver of a car parked near the Providence College campus on Nov. 15, 2014. Washington opened fire, striking Rudy Basquez in the arm.
The 29 year old Providence resident was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm. Police later arrested Washington after a chase.
