Man found unresponsive in DUI incident, charged with child endangerment

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — According to the North Smithfield Police Department, police were dispatched to Route 146 near the Lincoln Line for a report of a vehicle stopped in the high speed lane, with the operator passed out.
Upon arrival, NSPD were able to identify the unresponsive man as Alfred Smith, 30, of Providence.
Smith’s four-year-old daughter was secured in a booster seat in the back of the vehicle.
According to officials, Smith became conscious and alert after police made contact and administered aid.
Based on substantial evidence, officer’s requested Smith to submit field sobriety tests.
After further investigation, Smith was taken into custody and charged with a DUI, Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test, and Child Endangerment.
Smith was released and given a court date for April.
He was additionally charged with several civil violations, which he will be seen in court for in May.
