PROVIDENCE, R.I. – UPDATE: The victim involved in the shooting was sent to Rhode Island Hospital, where he later died.

Police say that around 12:30 A.M., Providence resident David Page, 57, arrived to pick up a female on Lowell Avenue. According to Major Lapatin at the Providence Police Department, as the woman entered the vehicle, an unknown number of people began firing at the car. One of the shots hit Page, and he was sent to Rhode Island hospital in critical condition.
A home and car were found with bullet holes near the scene. Officials say Page was familiar and "friendly" with the female he was picking up at the time of the incident. However, her identity and relationship to the victim has not been released. Police say the woman is not a suspect, and is cooperating with the investigation.
Law enforcement believes the shooting was a targeted attack, though it is unclear if target was Page or the female on the scene.
Providence Police confirmed Tuesday morning that Page died at Rhode Island Hospital. There were no other reported injuries.
Police are still investigating.
