Man in custody after stabbing at Cumberland grocery store

CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE) – A man was stabbed outside of a grocery store in Cumberland on Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
Authorities said David Ayala, 26, was arrested following the incident outside of the Stop & Shop on Mendon Road.
Police were alerted of a disturbance at 3 p.m. outside the store and arrived to find a man with a significant laceration to his hand.
After investigation, officers determined Ayala stabbed the victim with a large knife, and took him into custody on-scene.
Officials say the victim was transported to Miriam Hospital for his injuries.
Ayala will be charged with felony assault, weapons other than firearms prohibited, and disorderly conduct.
