Man rescued after falling from Newport’s famed Cliff Walk
NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — A man fell from Newport’s famed Cliff Walk early Saturday morning.
In a Facebook post Saturday, the Newport Firefighters IAFF Local 1080 wrote that Newport firefighters performed a high angle rescue for the man who had fallen about 40 feet down and had serious injuries.
Two members rappelled down, packaged the victim and worked with topside crews who had prepared a haul system.
Firefighters said the man, whose name was not immediately released, was retrieved from the rocks and taken to Toppa Field, so he could be flown for treatment.
Anyone with more information about the incident is asked to contact the Newport Police Department at 401-847-1302.
