NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) – Newport Police responded to the Yankee Candle on America’s Cup Avenue Monday night after reports of an armed robbery.

Victor Lambert, 43, revealed a knife and demanded all of the money in the cash register at approximately 7:15 p.m.

The clerk handed money over to Lambert before he fled the store.

Thanks to surveillance video, detectives identified the suspect as Lambert.

Detectives contacted Lambert via phone and originally convinced him to turn himself in.

Newport Police then responded to a Pond Avenue residence where Lambert was seen driving a vehicle.

Lambert was taken into custody and charged with first degree Armed Robbery.
