Man shot, killed by police in Raynham after pointing gun at officers

RAYNHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — A man died after being shot by police officers in Raynham on Tuesday.

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn said 35-year-old Stephen MacLean was fired upon at the King Philip Street Apartments.

Quinn said units were responding to MacLean’s apartment for a well-being check when he opened the door and pointed a gun at officers.

One officer deployed a taser and another two fired their guns, hitting MacLean and knocking him to the ground, according to Quinn.

Police administered medical aid until paramedics arrived and took MacLean to Morton Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Raynham Police Chief David LaPlante said, even though residents may see an increased police presence in the area, there is no apparent danger to the public.

LaPlante said no officers were injured in the incident.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said MacLean had been arrested Monday for allegedly intimidating a witness in Taunton District Court.

Probation officials requested he be detained as he was on probation at the time of the arrest, but a district court judge released him on personal recognizance.

Officials said they were told MacLean was fired from his job Tuesday morning after showing up to work intoxicated and had been acting aggressive prior to officers’ arrival at his apartment.

The District Attorney’s Office is investigating the case.
