WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — A Woonsocket man was shot while walking to his car after a basketball game on Wednesday night.

Police were called to the area of East School and Elbow streets around 10 p.m. for a reported shooting.

A man in his 20s was walking to his car after a basketball game at World War II Memorial Park when someone opened fire at him, Chief Thomas Oates said.

The man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was first brought to Landmark Medical Center and then to Rhode Island Hospital.

No arrests were made. Oates said the basketball game does not appear to be a factor in the shooting.

The incident is under investigation.
