Police say a man who committed two armed robberies is in custody.

Authorities say 31-year-old Justin Gurn of New Bedford entered two convenience stores on Saturday and robbed them at knifepoint.

Police say Gurn first robbed JC Variety on Cedar Street, New Bedford, at 3:30 pm, followed by Xtra Mart on Durfee Street at 8:45 pm. During the second robbery, Gurn masked his face with a shirt. Both times he fled on foot.

At the scene, police say they found clothing left behind by the suspect and the discarded knife used in the robberies. Police used this evidence combined with witness interviews to identify Gurn.

Detective William Sauve obtained arrest warrants for Gurn on one count of armed robbery and one count of armed robbery while masked, but discovered Gurn was already arrested Sunday morning on unrelated warrants.

Police say Gurn is currently in custody at the Dartmouth House of Correction.
