Man to be arraigned in connection with deadly hit-and-run in Fairhaven

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (WLNE) — A 35-year-old man from Fairhaven will be arraigned today in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that happened over the weekend on Main Street. 

The Bristol County District Attorney said that Ryan Almeida will be arraigned on charges of Leaving the Scene-Death Resulting and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon-Substantial Injury.

Police responded to the area of Riverside Cemetery near the Route 195 overpass around 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The driver of a moped was seriously injured and transported to to St. Luke’s Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The victim was 29-year-old Alexis Alvarez.

Police said a preliminary investigation determined that the moped and truck were both traveling southbound at the time of the crash.

He will be arraigned in New Bedford District Court.
