Man with Nazi flag accused of stomping Cape Verde flag due in court

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — East Providence police arrested a man they said walked up to city hall and stomped on a Cape Verdean flag.

Video shows 27-year-old Joey Marsden from Manville grabbing an American flag and a Cape Verdean flag, throwing them to the ground and stomping on the Cape Verdean flag.

This happened at Wednesday’s flag raising ceremony at city hall celebrating Cape Verdean independence day.

Marsden is now charged with vandalism and disorderly conduct.

Officers said they also found a six-inch knife and a Nazi flag on him.

Police are now working to determine if they will upgrade the charges to a hate crime.

He will be arraigned later Thursday.
