Man with Nazi flag accused of stomping Cape Verdean flag released on personal recognizance
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A man accused of stomping on a Cape Verdean flag in East Providence while carrying a knife and a Nazi flag was arraigned in court Thursday morning.
27-year-old Joey Marsden, of Lincoln, allegedly pulled down the American and Cape Verdean flags from city hall while stomping on the latter.
The incident was caught on camera.
This happened during East Providence’s celebration of Cape Verdean independence day.
Police said they found the knife and swastika flag on his person while arresting him.
Police are determining whether to charge him with a hate crime in addition to charges of vandalism and disorderly conduct.
He was released on personal recognizance.
