Mass. fire stations receive $5 Million towards fire safety
The amounts, which varied by city/town, were awarded as part of the Firefighter Safety Equipment Program.
ATTLEBORO, MA (WLNE) –
The Baker-Polito Administration announced Tuesday afternoon a total of $5 million will be going to Fire Departments across the state as part of the Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program.
This is the second year in a row funds have gone directly to Massachusetts firefighters as part of a $25 million bond to support firefighter safety and health through the purchase of equipment such as personal protective clothing, gear washers & dryers, thermal imaging cameras, extrication equipment, fitness equipment, and other approved items.
Departments were able to apply for 118 different types of eligible equipment.
Mass. State Governor Charlie Baker describes the program as an “opportunity to show our deep appreciation for their work by ensuring they have the tools they need to stay safe and healthy.”
While amounts vary per city/town, the City of Attleboro received $16,090 while $49,994.60 went to New Bedford. The City of Fall River received $34,930.
