Mass. State Police suspend boxing training following police recruit’s death in Worcester

WORCESTER, Mass. (WLNE) — Massachusetts State Police is suspending full-contact boxing training activities between trainees following the death of Trooper Enrique Delgado-Garcia.

Delgado-Garcia died after a boxing training exercise.

The Worcester recruit died on September 13 at UMass Memorial Medical Center, a day after the exercise.

According to ABC6’s affiliate, WCVB, Mass State Police is conducting a review of the academy’s training program to make sure it aligns with safety standards and best practices.
