Massachusetts Big Y locations affected by card skimmers

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WLNE) — Big Y Foods, Inc. said that a number of its Massachusetts stores were affected by card skimmers in December of last year.

The company said that, between Dec. 19 and Dec. 21, 2023, a checkout terminal at stores in Springfield, Chicopee, Northampton, Ware, Southbridge, Worcester, Milford, Wilbraham, and Ludlow.

In addition, a skimming device at the Westfield location on East Silver Street was active between Dec. 19 and Jan. 12.

“We are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident, and we notified and are working with law enforcement,” the company said. “If we learn that any particular customer’s information was compromised, we will promptly notify them and provide them with additional information so that they can take steps to protect themselves.”

The company is also advising customers review their bank and credit card statements for any signs of fraudulent activity.
