Massachusetts man sentenced 10 years to life for attempted enticement of a minor

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) –  A Massachusetts man was sentenced to 10 years to life in federal prison after pleading guilty Wednesday for charges including attempted enticement of a minor, attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor, and travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, said United States Attorney Zachary A. Cunha.

Cody J. Hansen, 38, of Massachusetts appeared before U.S. District Court Chief Judge John J. McConnell Jr., admitting that he posted an online classified advertisement seeking to connect with “someone who likes to play when the girl is passed out.”

He engaged in a series of online communications with someone who responded to his posting in May 2018. Hansen believed this person to be the father of 12 and 8-year-old girls living in Rhode Island.

The father gave Hansen an email he could use to talk to the 12-year-old. Hansen was actually given an email to talk to a Rhode Island State Police detective assigned to the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Hansen admitted he engaged in email communications with the believed to be 12-year-old girl, admitting they turned sexually graphic and he sent an obscene photo of his genitalia. The RISP Detective and Hansen spoke by telephone in May 2018, where Hansen confirmed he was traveling to RI with the intention of having sex with his daughters. When he arrived at the agreed location, He got into the front passenger seat of the detective’s car. Hansen confirmed he knew the ages of the girls he came to visit. He was immediately arrested by members of the ICAC Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations.

Hansen has been detained since being arrested and is scheduled for a sentence on March 17, 2022.
