Massachusetts man sentenced in Warwick child molestation case

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Massachusetts man was sentenced in Kent County Superior Court Tuesday after a three-day trial that found him guilty of child molestation.

Joao Soares, 32, will serve 19 years at the ACI with 40 years of probation upon release.

Soares must also register as a sex offender and has been issued a no-contact order with the victim and children under the age of 16.

Soares was found guilty of seven counts of first-degree child molestation and one count of second-degree child molestation on June 5.

The state proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Soares sexually assaulted a male victim under the age of 14 and known to him at a home in Warwick.

These assaults took place between 2007 and 2009.
