Massachusetts senate set to debate public school cell phone ban

BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Today the Massachusetts senate will take up a bill on limiting student cell phone use in public schools.

The ban would be bell-to-bell and would prohibit all cellphones and personal electronics in grades K through 12.

Public school districts would have to have a state-approved cell phone policy in place by the 2026-2027 school year.

There would be exceptions for students with disabilities and health issues.

A similar law was passed recently in Rhode Island going into effect in August of next year.
