Massachusetts State Police called to fatal New Bedford bridge crash

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A Fairhaven man was killed in a Thursday night crash on the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge according to statements from the Massachusetts State Police and the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

The incident occurred at 10:45 p.m. when a GMC Sierra traveling west on the bridge crossed over the solid double yellow line and crashed into a Tesla headed east.

The driver of the westbound vehicle sustained serious injuries, and the driver of the eastbound vehicle sustained fatal injuries.

Mason Evich, 28, was pronounced deceased at the scene, and route 6 was closed in both directions, along with Route 18 south ramp to the bridge.

The westbound driver, a 62-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital.

Normal traffic resumed two and a half hours later.

The accident is still under investigation by Massachusetts State Police.
