Massachusetts to receive $156 million in solar funding for low-income communities

BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The Massachusetts Department of energy will receive $156,120,000 to develop solar programs for low-income and disadvantaged communities through the Solar for All grant competition.

This funding comes as part of the $27 billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, which is a part of the Inflation Reduction Act.

The program is aimed at “funding of solar photovoltaic projects to achieve the maximum reduction of greenhouse gas emissions possible.”

Included in the program are low-income community shared solar initiative, private affordable housing financing, a residential lease initiative, and a zero interest loan initiative.

The EPA estimates that Solar for All will allow 900,000 low-income or disadvantaged households to benefit from solar energy.
