MassDEP investigating illegal dumping in Fairhaven

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (WLNE) — The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection is investigating an illegal dumping that happened early morning on Tuesday into Little Bay in Fairhaven.
According to Media Relations Secretary Ed Coletta, MassDEP responded to the area yesterday to reports of 9 55 gallon drums that were dumped in the area.
When the tide came in, 6 of the 9 drums floated out into the bay.
There was some leakage; however with the help of the Harbor Master, emergency crews from Fairhaven, and an independent contractor, the drums were recovered and disposed of.
According to MassDEP, the substance inside the drums was a petroleum oil like substance.
They are currently investigating the incident.
