Matos hosts Hispanic Heritage Month ceremony honoring local heroes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos hosted a Hispanic Heritage Month closing ceremony in Providence Saturday.
In a release, Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos said Community Hero awards were presented to “ten Rhode Islanders who have gone above and beyond to aid the Hispanic community during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The 10 people awarded include:
- Dr. Annie DeGroot and Clinic Esperanza
- Arelis Pena Brito and Acontecer Latino
- Donna O’Connor and all Providence Public School nurses
- Dr. Dioscaris Garcia
- Dr. Eugenio Fernandez and Asthenis Pharmacy
- George Ortiz and the Elisha Project
- Heiny Maldonado and Fuerza Laboral
- Shirley Moore and Be Moore Interpreting
- Rosa De Castillo
- Zuleyma Gomez
