Mattapan man sentenced to 6 years for beating woman on New Year’s Day
TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III said that a 36-year-old Mattapan man who beat the mother of his child on New Year’s Day in Taunton was sentenced to serve time in state prison.
Scott Fortes pled guilty to charges of strangulation, assault and battery with serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury, and domestic assault and battery.
Quinn said that on December 31, 2022, Fortes and the victim attended a family New Years Eve celebration in Easton, after which they got into a n argument of the way to the victim’s home in Taunton.
When they arrived at the home Fortes punched the victim in the face, which caused her to fall into the bathtub where he continued to attack her.
Quinn said that Fortes also struck her in the head with a book as well as strangling her until she could not breath.
Fortes kept the victim in her home for two days to “drain” her wounds, which included a contusion to her forehead and a fractured jawbone, before leaving her at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Quinn added that Fortes had seven past restraining orders filed against him in Massachusetts.
Fortes was sentenced to serve four to six years in state prison followed by three years of supervised probation.
