Mattapoisett man killed in rollover accident

MARION, MA (WLNE) – Massachusetts State Police are investigating after a fatal rollover accident in Marion Saturday morning.

State Police troopers reported to the scene around 7:00 a.m. Saturday following reports of a vehicle rollover on Interstate 195.

State Police say preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle, a Hyundai coupe, was traveling eastbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control of the vehicle, traveling into the median and rolling over.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Robert Xifaras, 55, of Mattapoisett, was pronounced dead at the scene. The left travel lane was closed for approximately 3 hours Saturday morning to allow for thorough investigation.

State Police were assisted on the scene by Marion Fire, EMS, and Police, Massachusetts DOT, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
