Mattapoisett Police charge Romanian national with credit card forgery

MATTAPOISETT, Mass. (WLNE) — The Mattapoisett Police Department said it arrested a Romanian national who was accused of cloning debit cards and making unauthorized ATM withdrawals.

39-year-old Nicu Vasile Ardel was charged with larceny and credit card forgery.

Police said that multiple reports of unauthorized withdrawals from ATMs were reported and that an investigation discovered they were made using cloned debit cards.

The department alleged that Ardel was part of a larger organization using credit card skimming devices.

He was arrested in North Providence while returning from a trip to New York.
