SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — Matunuck Oyster Bar has announced it will be opening outdoors this summer.

The restaurant will have a “soft opening” on June 30, and officially open on July 1.

On May 20, the Oyster Bar sustained “significant damage” in a fire, causing it to close and impact over 300 employees.

Legislation was then introduced to the General Assembly to allow the restaurant to operate outside, which was signed by Governor McKee on June 23.

On Wednesday, Matunuck Oyster Bar Owner Perry Raso confirmed that the restaurant has received final approval from South Kingstown Town Council to operate outside, and announced the opening dates.

Raso added that July 1 is also the restaurant’s 16th anniversary.

The outdoor area will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the parking lot across the street, located at 650 Succotash Road, East Matunuck.

“We are incredibly grateful to our municipal and state leaders for their partnership in helping us execute this plan,” Raso said. “This outdoor dining space will allow us to welcome guests back this summer, as well as keep many of our valued team members employed.”

Reservations and take-out will be available online.
