Mayor Coogan announces Fall River Inauguration

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) – Mayor Paul Coogan has confirmed that the upcoming Inaugural Ceremony will be held Monday, January 3 at 4:00 p.m. Coogan recommended that invitees and the public view the ceremony remotely.

The event, taking place at the B.M.C. Durfee High School Auditorium. For those viewing at home, Fall River Government Television will be broadcasting the ceremony on their Facebook page and Channel 8 of X-finity. WSAR, a local radio station, will be broadcasting the ceremony live on 1480 AM and 95.9 FM.

Masks and social distancing will be required. This announcement comes after Coogan had to cancel last week’s Inaugural Ceremony after a flare of COVID-19 cases in Fall River.

“As with most other events and traditions, the inauguration will look different this year,” remarked Mayor Paul Coogan. “While I’d like more than anything to share this day in-person with residents, it simply is not safe to fill an auditorium right now. I hope that residents will tune in from home and I look forward to sharing other special events with them very soon.”
