Mayor Elorza addresses Kennedy Plaza issues, announces plan

Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza announced his plan to further address issues critical to Kennedy Plaza, including homelessness, panhandling, and addiction issues.
Mayor Elorza says his plan includes allocating new resources for social supports, engaging the public, and advocating for increased mental health, substance abuse and housing resources for the city.
In a press conference Thursday he said he will increase police presence in Kennedy Plaza but also open a day center for the homeless.
Public Safety Commissioner Steven pare says disruptive behavior won’t be tolerated – and safety is paramount.
The city is also going to work with Amos House to provide work and housing for those in need.
