The second annual PVD Fest drew 75,000 people to the Capital City. Mayor Jorge Elorza says it was better than he expected and the future for festivals in Providence is bright.
"I’m just so proud of our city. So many people have come up to me and said ‘Wow this is incredible!’" said Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza.
The festival, in the heart of downtown Providence, was equipped with music, food, art and massive crowds.
"What a great experience it was and to sum it all up we are the creative capital and this was putting the arts center stage as we should continue to do,” said Elorza.
The city’s open alcohol container law was temporarily lifted for the festival allowing spectators to walk freely with drinks.
Providence police increased security over the weekend but no arrests were made.
"Not one single arrest or incident. We’ve tried it a few times already and each time it’s worked extremely well,” Elorza said.
PVD Fest happened as Providence is bidding to become the host city for the 2017 and 2018 X Games. Mayor Elorza says it’s good timing.
"Nothing but good vibes and good energy and great publicity coming out of PVD Fest. So it definitely can’t hurt. We’re going to continue advocating and lobbying trying to bring the X Games,” said Elorza.
A representative for the X Games told ABC6 they will be announcing a short list of finalist cities any day now as this year’s games are wrapping up in Austin.
