PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza unveiled his $734 million budget proposal Wednesday night.
The budget includes pay raises for most city workers, major investments in education, and no property tax increases across the board.
“This budget reflects a pro-growth progressive vision for the City,” said Mayor Elorza.
Another big topic was the impact the Trump Administration will have on funding in the city.
That is something the City Council President Luis Aponte says he will be keeping a close eye on.
“We are, like many other cities, awaiting anxiously to see what the federal government will do with programs like education, the support of the heart and the community block grant dollars. Those dollars, they are the lifeline to many of our most vulnerable communities. They are the way that cities support social services and housing and insure that cities remain places that people of all economic levels can stay,” said Providence City Council President, Luis Aponte.
The proposal is for the fiscal year beginning July 1st. It now goes to the council.
