Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien is making an impassioned pitch to state lawmakers to try and convince them to keep the PawSox at McCoy Stadium.

Grebien sent the letter to Governor Raimondo, Speaker Mattiello, and President Paiva Weed this afternoon. In his two-page plea, the mayor asks state leaders to put the brakes on the plans put forward by the PawSox’s new owners that would take the team out of his city.

He asks that a special legislative session be held near the end of the year to discuss the impact of the PawSox moving away from McCoy and to allow time for a study to be done.

The session would look at what kind of upgrades could be made at the current home of PawSox to try and keep the team in Pawtucket.
